Myofunctional
Therapy

Two women sitting on a couch having a conversation in a living room filled with artwork, including an abstract painting on the wall. The woman on the right is smiling, holding a clipboard and pen, with short, blonde hair, wearing a striped shirt and black pants. The woman on the left has red hair, wearing a pink sweater and black pants, holding glasses.

Myofunctional Therapy is a form of physical therapy designed to address the function and alignment of the muscles involved in speaking, chewing, swallowing, and breathing. It aims to improve the efficiency and coordination of these muscles.

Myofunctional Disorders are any disorders of the oral and facial muscles that affect proper oral resting position and function.

The main goals of a myofunctional therapy program are to:

  • Correct tongue posture

  • Achieve full-time nasal breathing (day/night)

  • Strengthen the lips to achieve adequate lip seal (day/night)

  • Correct swallowing dysfunction
