Myofunctional Therapy Program
We provide a structured 6-month program focused on correcting oral and facial muscle dysfunction. The therapy targets four key functions: correct tongue posture, nasal breathing, adequate lip seal, and swallowing pattern. Through a series of evidence-based exercises the program addresses underlying muscle imbalances that contribute to snoring, sleep-disordered breathing, jaw pain, orthodontic relapse, and other related conditions. The goal is to restore optimal function, support airway health, and deliver long-term results.

1. Initial Assessment
The therapist evaluates the patient’s oral and facial muscles, posture, breathing, and swallowing patterns. They also assess any dental issues and take a thorough medical history. Photographs are taken to monitor client progress.
Initial assessments take around 1-1.5 hours.
2. Customised Treatment Plan
Based on the assessment, the therapist creates a personalised treatment plan that addresses the patient's specific needs. This plan will involve exercises aimed at strengthening or retraining the oral and facial muscles, based on goals determined during the initial consultation.
Complex long-standing conditions in clients such as temporomandibular joint disorder, facial pain and sleep apnea may require some additional sessions to achieve all myofunctional goals.
3. Follow-Up and Progress Monitoring
Regular sessions are typically scheduled fortnightly over a period of several months (average of 6 months). The therapist monitors progress, adjusts exercises, and provides feedback to help the patient stay on track.
Home Exercises: Patients are given a set of exercises to practice at home between sessions. Usually, this consists of 4 exercises per session. Three active exercises are practiced twice daily for 5 mins and one passive exercise which is practiced for around 5-30 minutes per day.
Re-evaluation: At the 12th session, the clients myofunctional disorders are reassessed and graded for improvement of symptoms.
